Osoranna Mojekwu: Art That Speaks Unity
Today, I want to share something truly inspiring about Osoranna Mojekwu known to people as Oso. He’s a Nigerian-American visual artist who’s doing something beautiful in Lagos. He’s just created stunning works for Adidas’ flagship store, and there’s meaning behind every thread and bead.

Picture this, a young man growing up between Chicago and Lagos. He found his voice not with words, but through art. In Nigeria, at age 10, he went to secondary school in Lagos right here he fell in love with his roots and the power of creativity .
He uses recyclable things like foil, thread, wire, and beads. He turns them into big, three dimensional art pieces. They feel alive like stories you can walk into .
That’s why Adidas asked him to create two artworks for their Lagos flagship store. He spent over 600 hours working on them . Every corner shows Nigerian culture ,braided hair, colorful beads, diverse faces ,blended with the classic Adidas lines. It’s about unity, community, identity and here’s what hits me, this isn’t just decoration. Oso’s art speaks. He wants people to feel seen. He cares about sustainability, so he uses recycled materials to remind us to care about our world . He gives voice to Black youth, telling their stories across continents.
When you walk into that store on Akin Adesola Boulevard in Victoria Island, it feels like stepping into a gallery. The building itself is a tribute to Lagos, Inside, the space is about connection, a café, a court, and walls alive with art by Oso and others.
Oso once said art became his voice when words failed because he stuttered when trying to speak, Now art speaks louder than any speech ever and that is the power he’s giving to others especially the young ones.
He’s young, driven, intentional and he uses his platform to share, to include, and to build. He’s saying, we all matter. Every story matters and when we lift others up, we build stronger communities.
His message quietly shouts, You belong, You are part of the story. It’s a lesson for every young creative looking for a place to stand. It’s a message to every woman, every student, every dreamer, your identity is powerful. Your creativity is meaningful and your community sees you.
Osoranna Mojekwu is doing more than making beautiful art. He’s weaving culture, history, sustainability, and youth voices into a space made for everyone. He’s showing that when a brand like Adidas wants to connect with Lagos, it’s not just about selling shoes, it’s about showing respect to the people who live here and for any young artist reading this whether you make collage or rap or design ,take note! Use your story. Use your tools. Speak your truth. Create not only for yourself, but for your people because when you do that, your work becomes something bigger. Something that lasts.
Oso did and now, whenever someone visits that Adidas store, they can not but admire the beauty and that's awesome.
